The Virtaankoski dam has been dismantled and the rapids are free!

We are adding more information on this page about Virtaankoski and the development of the area.
Please note that fishing is prohibited in the rapids area throughout 2025. Recreational paddling through the rapids is allowed, but rafting is limited to events for the time being.

2022-2024
Virtaankoski is located in River Tainionvirta in Sysmä municipality. The river is about 37 kilomiters long and it falls from Lake Nuoramoinen to Lake Päijänne. River Tainionvirta is one of the most significant spawning grounds for endangered trout of Lake Päijänne and whitefish.
